Counseling typically explores psychological disorders involved in a client’s complex clinical presentation and requires a detailed understanding of conditions such as depression, borderline personality disorder, addiction, and trauma.
In contrast, coaching focuses less on diagnosis and disorders and more on specific action steps: communication skills, coping skills, self awareness, perspective development, and learning how to relate effectively to others. Anyone can benefit from coaching!
With my counseling background and experience I know that often our past does need to be addressed in order for lasting change to occur, therefore I do help clients heal and learn from past experiences. However, for those with significant psychological problems I recommend contacting a licensed therapist and in some cases a psychiatrist. I am happy to work with other involved professionals to help you meet your goals.
